Kemp Golf Course Design is honored to be working with Corsicana Country Club. The Club has a storied past and our first step in the process of helping the them out is to document the history of the golf course.
The original golf course at Corsicana Country Club was 9-holes and designed by Scotsman William Lorimer, who stayed on to be the first golf professional at the club. In the 1920's the club engaged one of the great golf course architects, A.W. Tillinghast to make the golf course 18-holes. Tillinghast was working at several nearby clubs in Dallas at the time and as the story goes he spent several weekends in Corsicana overseeing work on the golf course.
Tillinghast came back in the mid 1930's when he was working for the PGA consulting on courses around the country. It is believed at this time he recommend the club talk to another great architect, Perry Maxwell about making several improvements to the course. In the late 1930's Maxwell toured the course and made several recommendations to improve the course.
The golf course sits on a great piece of land and we are excited to help the club bring back and enhance the Tillinghast and Maxwell features throughout the course.
